Vision Therapy
20/20 vision alone is not all children need to reach their full potential. Both children and adults can face visual challenges that lead to a multitude of symptoms including skipping words or lines while reading, avoiding near work, difficulty copying from the board, eye strain and headaches, losing one's place in a book, fluctuating blurry vision, and double vision. Specifically, individuals with the following eye problems may benefit from a thorough visual efficiency evaluation:
Convergence Insufficiency
Accommodative Dysfunction
Strabismus and Amblyopia
Stress-induced Visual Difficulties
After an evaluation the doctor may determine if there is a visual problem that can interfere with learning and if that problem will respond to vision therapy.
Vision therapy is an individualized treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and/or perceptual deficiencies and specifically address the difficulties your child is having. Visual skills are developed through the use of lenses, prisms, filters, and specialized computer programs. Vision therapy sessions include procedures designed to enhance the brain's ability to control:
Eye alignment
Eye teaming
Eye focusing abilities
Eye movements
Visual processing
